The optimization of human performance through the application of strength and conditioning principles is a byproduct of an understanding achieved from studying the fundamentals. It is not enough as a coach working with athletes in the weight room to see the poundage go up on the barbell; but we must see the gained ability reach the playing field.

During the following few sections of this booklet, we will break down what I believe to be the most critical fundamentals in program writing. It's not enough to take the popular exercises of today and jam them together on a piece of paper with random sets and reps and hope for the best, but rather take a systematic approach of compiling information in a way that makes sense and results in a repeatable athletic outcome.
